Winter Storms Preparedness

photo: KTKA.Com

Are you prepared for winter storms. While it may be late in our season, we still must be, RED CROSS, ready for any storms that may come up. We must be prepared for large drops in temperature,  freezing rain, icing, high winds, and heavy snowfalls. It ios still too early to let down our guard, we must be prepared for the worst case scenario. Of course in the northern states and even in the southern states we must be stocked with food and supplies in case of a snow-in or icing.

It is important not to procrastinate in  being prepared. You may think that the weather channel will give you ample warning, but, what if they only give a days notice? Will you be ready?  Perhaps you are “under the weather” and unable to secure your home and property and get supplies in time before being shut in. There are many things to get prepared in and around your home.

The American Red Cross publishes warnings to be; “Emergency Prepared,” for every season and for all our nation. In addition they publish a checklist for all of us that we can download and printout. I have made it available  for you on this site.

You will need Adobe Reader to open the checklist and it is available for you for free. Most computers have this installed already. Also you can get McAfee Security Scan for Free at the same time if you like. It will scan your PC and check for security threats and fix them.

Haiti Homeless Toll: Thousands – Death Toll: Hundreds of Thousands

The destructive earthquake of a magnitudinal force of 7.0 flattened the Capital of Haiti as well as many surrounding neighborhoods. Bodies are piled up in the streets and the churches, hospitals, the main prison and schools. Little children, woman and men lay dead. Senator Youri Latortue reported to the Associated Press that anywhere up to 500,000 could be dead, however there is no official count as of yet. U.S. Humanitarian Chief John Holmes said that it is possible for the death toll to reach that amount. Entire neighborhoods of homes are flattened and bodies lay strewn throughout.

The International Red Cross is on scene and a spokesperson has reported that up to one third of Haiti’s population could need medical care. Additionally it is said that it could take days in order to just estimate the amount of damage. The Red Cross has announced plans for damage assessments and relief operations for this devastated and poverty stricken country.

Scriptures

There are six things that the Lord hates, seven that are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and one who a sows discord among brothers. - Proverbs 6:16-19 ESV
