Maple Valley Fire and Life Safety offers CERT courses for disaster preparedness
Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a disaster preparedness course designed to create awareness, teach critical skills for assessing a disaster situation and ensure participants gain the confidence they need to react productively and responsibly in a disaster. There are no prerequisites and the cost is a $35 class fee due prior to the start of class. It is an 8 week course and finishes with a disaster simulation after a take home exam.

- Fire Suppression
- Light Search & Rescue
- Disaster Psychology
- Course Review & Disaster Simulation

This is a program that is deeply recommended to residents of all communities. Call your local fire department or Emergency Management Board to find scheduling of any up and coming disaster preparedness courses for the community. If there are none, take the initiative and contact your mayor to start a plan of action to get your community involved in being prepared. Know one knows when a disaster will strike. If you wait ttill the last minute to do something, it may be your LAST MINUTE.
Contact your local chapter of the American Red Cross for help with getting your community disaster prepared. The American Red Cross also needs volunteers and provides all necessary training.
